It's Not a Cake Walk

2006 Christmas Time~ Jim is taking the photo,
Chloe was napping, and Owen and Hazel were on the way

Recently one of my dear friends who is about to become grandmother said something like, I didn't know when I became a mother it meant a life time of concerns and worry about not only my children but their children, their spouses, etc. Truer words have never been spoken.

Over the last 11 years our family has grown from five to eighteen. We went from three kids to six adult kids when they all married within four months in 1997. In 1999 we got three grandkids and it has been a constant and joyous stream of babies ever since. We have 3 nine-year-old grandkids, 1 that is eight, 2 that are six, a four year old, a three year old and 19 month old and a 15 month old. Out of all of these kids and grandkids there is a constant prayer roll going on in our house for specials blessings that are needed.

The day before Christmas Eve, little Owen fell and broke his arm, Hazel is just getting over a virus that put her back in fever mode and feeling miserable, yesterday Lowell fell flat on his back on their icy driveway taking out the big garbage totes and today we have word from Laura in Italy (sweet post) that little Spencer has a bad case of the flu.

It is wonderful to have these sweet family members in our lives but lest you think that grand parenting is for the fainthearted, think again. You just want to shelter and protect and heal them, you want their lives to be nothing but bliss and happiness...but I guess that isn't really God's plan for his children. All these things shall give us experience and be for our good. It is just our job to search for it, find it, accept God's will and know he is in charge. But it is not all lollipops and roses, that is for sure.

Get well, dear family! We love you. And everyone that is uninjured or healthy~stay that way, please?

What a beautiful family picture! And I'm glad that you are ahead of me in this 'grandma' thing because you are a wealth of wisdom, information and advice. What would I ever do without you, my dear Bon????!

It would be nice if it were truly all lollipops and roses. I guess He wants to make sure that we become stronger and faithful in times of adversity. What a blessing though, to go from a family of five to eighteen! Your family is many strands of rope. It looks pretty strong to me. Lot's of love going on there!
